So what were you doing on a Friday night in Toronto? If you buried yourself in your apartment that's a shame because the UK's house phenom Julio Bashmore was in town and tending to the lovesick was in his interest. Playing a long passionate set of deep house into the after hours, it was clear that Julio was our aphrodisiac. As expected he played his best card Battle for Middle You which has become an anthem for house heads in the past couple of months.

There's a unique aura that emanates when you see this guy play. His selection is an embodiment of Rolands with rhythm and blues. Take his remix of the Into the Valley as an example. Syncopated 909s lay the path out for vocalist Karl Dixon to go out on the mic and belt it.

But it was this 2am jam that stole the night. Not the freshest pick in his set either, this piece is two years old but it had just the right shape to fit the vibes floating on the floor that night. It's a gem and a good summary. The sound was tender, and the mix of melodies with personalities created an event that doesn't happen all too often. House being stripped of it's core.

Definitely check this guy out if you see him on a bill. Be prepared to experience something different from the regular fist pumping electro smashing. Also take a look at his catalog of other releases especially the Batty Knee Dance, Father Father, and Everyone Needs A Theme Tune EPs. He's also got a new remix dropping on his label Futureboogie June 20th so check it.
