There are thousands of popular artists out there today making new singles all the time. With the increase of bedroom producers though, the ability to simply download a whole studio that you can use right on your lap has made original songs more scarce. Now it seems that your findingtens of thousands of remixes by artists with more and more ludicrous names, leaving you wondering "Transexual Viking Sword Bro- what???." This weekly segment will bring you the popular remixes and the never heard of "Transexual Viking Sword Brothers" remixes of a (common) artist's singles. From all these bedroom producers we are seeing one thing, and that is absolutely fantastic, manipulated, warped remixes.
PRE AMBLE: I'm back. Expect big things in your future coming from Artist Remixed… That is all.
Phoenix has been around for quite some time and has actually released 4 studio albums and 2 live albums. Phoenix's popularity started in 2000 with their album "United." They really exploded though in 2009 with their singles 1901 and Lisztomania. Phoenix consists of four people, Thomas Mars, Deck d'Arcy, Christian Mazzalai and Laurent Brancowitz.
POPULAR REMIXES
There were no remixes that struck out as being obviously the popular ones expect maybe the Alex Metric Remix. These remixes are all the most commonly known I guess you would say? I hate to have done this to you since I just realized it now but their all Lisztomania remixes. Just bear with me on these ones! Your ears will be rewarded when you come upon the 'Indie as F**k' section. Highlights on the Alex Metric Remix.
ELECTRO REMIXES
These were pretty good remixes this week, especially considering that two of them are else where. One really good electro remix is in the most popular section (Redial Remix) and the second is my most favourite (Trumpdisco Remix.) The electro is not too harsh in this section but instead more upbeat electro that would be a little too violent to just throw under disco because there is some heavy synth in there. Really, really enjoyed the Dynamics Remix and was tied between it and the Trumpdisco for overall favourite so honourable mention and defiantly highlights on it.
DUBSTEP REMIXES
I tried, I swear readers, I really tried to find you dubstep remixes. This was the only thing that wasn't garbage that I found. It was like finding a needle in a haystack. So highlights on the Neon Steve Remix. This little taste of dubstep is such a tease. It's like finding the milk in the fridge and someone left just enough for one gulp, not even close to a full cup. Come on! You kill it, you fill it.
DISCO REMIXES
I found a surprising amount of disco'y remixes. They were too soft to be considered electro because they didn't have the thrash, but then they were too upbeat to be chill out. So disco remixes we have before us! I feel that the disco sounds work really well with the classic vocals of Phoenix. Highlights on Classixx Remix.
CHILL OUT REMIXES
These remixes are much more relaxed and have a very peaceful, harmonizing feel. Very easy to play this section and simply lie down and nap. I often do to any chill out section. A lot of really good stuff in here this week. Highlights on Uphill Racer Remix.
INDIE AS F**K REMIXES
Now someone made a funny comment about how the hidden remix section is basically indie as f**k section and I was totally down for changing it. Then I heard these remixes and didn't know exactly where to put them. They weren't really chill out because they were upbeat, but they weren't disco'y either. Indie as f**k was the only possible label. Plus it's a pretty bomb label. So here you have it, your 'indie as f**k' remixes of Phoenix. Highlights on 25 Hours A Day Remix.
HIDDEN REMIXES
Here are you secret remixes found in the depths of youtube, hypem, and soundcloud lurking to be discovered. Mainly the real focus of "Artist Remixed" to bring light to the smaller artist to get them the attention they deserve. Highlights on the Bleek & Sputnik Remix.
RAP REMIXES
It's new to 'Artist Remixed' and might only be making a couple of appearances but I did know a few and thought it would be an interesting addition to add to 'Artist Remixed.' I mean enough of your usual chopped vocals and repeating drum lines to make a remix, let's throw some rap into the mix and see how it turns out. Highlights on the Olu remix.
OVERALL FAVOURITE REMIX
My overall favourite remix is the Trumpdisco remix. This remix starts you off with a nice drum beat coming in building some suspense but quickly drops it too fooling you thinking this is going to be a nice peaceful remix. Soon you'll learn that this remix has all the thrash and gash of heavy electro that you need. A terrifying synth matched with a pounding beat rocks you of your chair. Enjoy the slaughtering field as your ears get ripped to shreds.
