Regardless of what anyone says, music is an integral part of Burning Man. There are hundreds of sound camps and art cars blasting music at all hours of the day. Whether it's catching a Carl Cox headlining set at Opulent Temple's famous 'Wednesday White Party', a Skrillex/Diplo set at Camp Questionmark or even a sunrise Tycho set at the Dusty Rhino, this festival boasts incredible music from top performers looking to take a break from the grandiose festival circuit for a more DIY, out-of-the-box setting. But just like any music festival, many fans in attendance bring along their own playlist to party and dance to and every festival will always have that one inescapable, big hit song that finds it's way into each of these playlists. A few months ago, while attending the Desert Hearts festival, that song was "Tearing Me Up" by Bob Moses—which I do love but was a little sick of by the 47th play over a three-day weekend festival. And for this year's Burning Man festival, the unofficial theme song on everyone's playlists came from DIRTYBIRD's own Shiba San and his 2014 banger "Okay". Even though the artist didn't make a physical appearance at the festival (from what we know of), his rolling deep bass hit blasted far and wide throughout every fairy wing wearing, half-naked, tripped out camp this year.
I mean, the track is dope but some advice for future attendees of festivals in the middle of nowhere and with no cell phone reception, please make sure you download something more than a 10-track playlist!
