Cristóvam feels torn between two worlds in “Fever” ft. Boy & Bear

Hailing from the stunning archipelago of the Azores, Portuguese artist Cristóvam is accustomed to the peace and solitude amidst the serenity of nature, away from the intensity of everyday life. Although this may sound like the ideal scenario for a lot of people, it can also have its downsides. For Cristóvam, his career as a musician often requires him to travel extensively, taking him to places around the world. Whilst feeling grateful for these opportunities, his constant movement often leaves him feeling restless and displaced, far from his family and home. His latest single, “Fever”, featuring Australian indie/folk artist Boy & Bear, highlights this mix of emotions, as the songwriter yearns to feel less detached from the world.

Sonically, “Fever” is ethereal and atmospheric, with haunting harmonies that intertwine seamlessly between Cristóvam and Boy & Bear, creating a mesmerizing dynamic that evokes both longing and reflection. The guitars emit an echoing effect that enhances the song's dreamlike quality, further immersing the listener in a feeling of drifting through the ether, while the steady beat serves as an anchor, emphasizing the determination to find solid ground.

Through the lyrics, we witness the emotional turmoil and the feeling of being torn between two different worlds. As he sings, "Out in the waves / It's a desert of fools / Where my heart is tangled and I can't move / But here in the city / I'm longing for you / Wish there was a place where no one would lose," we can step into the shoes of the artist.

Cristóvam shares, "I think all touring musicians experience it to some degree, but living so far from the cultural centers of the world only intensifies the disconnection. When I’m not touring, I often feel like I’m in limbo, never fully in one place. That feeling of never truly being present is something I think a lot of people can relate to—when your body is physically in one place, going through the motions on autopilot, but your mind is somewhere else entirely. I often find myself thinking, what a foolish place to be. It’s a feeling that lingers even now—one that you have to learn to live with if you want a career in the performing arts but don’t want to move to a big city."

“Fever” is off of Cristóvam’s upcoming album, Desert of Fools, which is due later this year.
