Capital Cities crank up the energy with indie pop anthem "Late for School"

Capital Cities, the duo behind the global hits "Safe and Sound" and "Kangaroo Court," return with a vibrant new single, "Late For School," another glimpse into their forthcoming full-length album Making Up The Rules.

Known for their ability to fuse infectious hooks with bold sonic experimentation, the band once again proves they have a knack for creating songs that are both playful and thought-provoking.

"Late For School" is a high-tempo burst of indie rock and alt-pop energy, with the kind of brass flourishes and rhythmic twists that have become Capital Cities’ calling card. The track follows a central figure who resists conformity, choosing instead to embrace individuality and authenticity.

The narrative blends seamlessly with the band’s musical identity, offering a lively reminder that art and life are most exciting when they defy expectations.

Arriving just in time for the back-to-school season, the song captures a sense of rebellion wrapped in danceable production. The instrumentation is layered with pulsing basslines, percussive drive, and horn arrangements that elevate the track beyond standard indie pop fare.

Every moment feels designed to make listeners move, while also tapping into the liberating spirit of self-expression.

The single also arrives on the heels of Fk It*, another inventive release from the band that signaled their continued exploration of synthwave-inspired grooves and eclectic textures. Together, these new tracks suggest that Making Up The Rules will be a record that embraces Capital Cities’ adventurous instincts, unafraid to mix genres and moods into a distinctive soundscape.

Capital Cities have built their reputation on crafting music that feels fresh yet instantly memorable.

"Late For School," keeps that tradition alive, balancing their signature playfulness with an anthem that resonates far beyond its catchy hook. It’s a reminder that the band thrives when they lean into their quirks, offering fans not only an earworm but also a philosophy: staying true to yourself is always worth being late for.
