London's music scene is arguably one of the best and fastest growing due to its ability to thrive as what feels like a family-run business. Regardless of respective electronic genres; labels, events, promoters, DJs and producers are constantly working together in their nominated sound brackets to expand and develop on the tight knit community that's responsible for pushing some of the best UK talent into the spotlight.
Beatniks is a label out of London run by DJs and producers Ron OC, Sucasa and James View. All regulars on the capital's rave circuit and playing stacked tech sets at clubs like Hangar, 93 Feet East, Studio 338 and Village Underground, the friends and co-workers have created an imprint which exudes the same energies as their DJ sets and personal productions.
Last week, Beatniks took their first foray into the world of wax with the vinyl-only Make It So EP. Following up their last digital release from Toronto-based house artist Devv, Beatniks welcome minimal mainstay DJ and producer ADMNTi to the fold – with support on remix duties from Niko Maxen and Casey Spillman. "With such an influx of digital music and how easy it is to get these days.. I think that's why there is such a resurgence in wax" Label owner Ron OC explains, speaking about the exclusive format for the four-tracker, "You know there are 200 copies and then that's it – you either have the track or you don’t and I think it gives something special to the DJ and artist in that sense".
The EP kicks off with A1 and title track "Make It So", an eight minute showcase of ADMNTi's prowess in minimal production with a driving bass line and a subtle build throughout. Niko Maxen's remix of "Make It So" serves as the A2, taking the opener into a deeper dance-floor space. The B-side welcomes soothing pads and and a steady, bubbling beat in the form of "Riker", with Casey Spillman's twist on the track upping the tempo and scattering wicked synths throughout.
