It's barely May but 2013 has been a crazy year already. This year's White House Correspondents' Dinner reflected the need to lighten the mood a bit as President Barack Obama opened up the evening with a hearty slew of jokes that laced politics with pop cultural references, keeping the usual WHCD-style zingers–which generally involve brutally honest yet playful jabs at a variety of pundits, millionaires, news outlets and the POTUS himself–fresh and somewhat unexpected.
No US president has been able to bring hip hop into the White House like Obama and the same POTUS who referenced Young Jeezy last year entered the gala to DJ Khaled's "All I Do Is Win", then took rip at Rush Limbaugh, saying Limbaugh was right–he's back for term two.
Following this he cited recent White House conundrums, of which include Jay-Z and Beyonce's trip to Cuba, much to the President's chagrin. "I had 99 problems and now Jay-Z is one of them," he said before clarifying that "99 Problems" is a rap reference, something his audience may or may not have been hip to pick up on.
