Middle Part first made a splash and attracted industry attention with the viral single "& Cry!" released in 2020. Since then, the band headed by Brooklyn-based artist Andy Selkōw has released a slew of edgy left of center pop/rock singles and EPs to boot. Now Middle Part has unleashed their debut album Disruptor, a ten track deeply raw, authentic and autobiographical sonic envelopment.

The album discusses a myriad of important themes ranging from dealing with depression, suicidal thoughts, and trying to live in a world hell bent on an insane level of corporate-level productivity. Despite the darkness, there is an overlying theme of hope though, with the album shining light on the positive effects of self love and acceptance. Single "Get Fixed" is an elevated and invigorating alt rock banger. Complete with swirling groovy guitars and a hard-hitting chorus that lingers long after the song completes, the song is a strong opening track. The track also encapsulates the overall theme of the album, focusing on letting go of regrets and trying to cope with growing older.

Then there is "Nowhere" which is the strongest and most popular song on the album. Beginning with a steady drum beat and Andy's enthralling vocal hue, the song's layered bridge soon takes listeners to a breezy and all encompassing chorus that is full of heart and fervor. The track is a hopeful and happy moment where the band chooses self acceptance and lets go of negativity and constant worry about how others view them. With "Superstar", Middle Part creates a super relevant song that is all about the rat race, one of which so many of us are a part of. The entertainment industry is full of pitfalls but the track details how one's aspirations will keep them going as the dream is too strong. A kaleidoscopic mix of guitars paired with Andy's confessional vocals take the listern to new heights.

The harrowing "Dial*" is all about how paranoia and today's isolated existence can lead someone to the depths of depression. Andy confides, "Lyrically, this song revisits a very particular grim time and serves as an acknowledgement of never wanting to personally return to such a low. The massive weight of the song's themes are juxtaposed with a familiar pop format. Its intent, like much of the record, is to upset the complacent mainstream." The jarring narrative is perhaps the most transformative moment on the album and it acts as a cry for help for many of us to help recognize the perils of depression.

Disruptor was recorded both in New York as well as an isolated cabin in Maine. Long time artistic collaborators, musicians and friends Brian Zaremba, Michael Andrews, Frank Corr, and James McDermott all joined Andy Selkōw contributing a vast array of talents. The album features a vast array of musical styles including grunge, alt pop, rock and alternative. The 10 track collection is a deeply thought-provoking and important listen, one in which listeners will feel heard and inspired.
