Astral Bakers are at their raw, emotional indie best with stunning new album "Vertical Life"

Returning with a moody, sonically pleasing and full-frontal indie journey – Astral Bakers' Vertical Life is a compelling sophomore effort that solidifies the Paris-based quartet's unique sound. Following their 2024 debut, The Whole Story, which introduced a soft-grunge aesthetic with folk and atmospheric rock elements, Vertical Life sees the band fully embrace their collective identity. This album is a testament to the synergy between Ambroise, Theodora, Nico, and Zoé, as their individual voices coalesce into a singular, powerful musical language. The album represents the first time the other band members, take a more central role in the vocals and songwriting..

Recorded in the U.S. with acclaimed producer Sam Evian, Vertical Life prioritizes raw energy and authenticity over polished perfection. The album’s charm lies in its immediacy, with subtle imperfections adding to its rich texture, making each track feel like a personal entry from a living journal. Guitars shimmer and crackle, basslines provide a cinematic foundation, and drums shift effortlessly between understated rhythms and dreamlike fluidity. The interwoven vocals are both fragile and bold, navigating a captivating space between indie introspection and grunge-fueled catharsis. One of the standout tracks "A Dog In A Manger" has a true uplifting feel, a piece that's able to feel equal parts uplifting and cathartic at the same time.

"Vertical Life" explores the dualities of ascent and vertigo, grounding and release, reflecting a band in constant evolution. Critics have already lauded their distinctive approach, with Under The Radar noting their ability to "lift a song skyward".

This is an album for indie purists.. For those who long for the melancholic and genuine pang of a heartfelt grunge banger. Listen to the full album below
