The battle for sub-genres continue with this next seapunk chapter installed by UK-based duo Tsars. The 7th release (SPLASH007) to be out since Albert Redwine of Kansas City started Coral Records. Coral Records is beginning to shift gears with this new release as they bring in a more techno and minimalistic attitude to their records.
"Love 44" has the blissful ocean voice synth that is a signature in seapunk music. I'm more accustomed to hearing juke and jungle beats, so this is a nice switch. Here we get a change and receive some four-to-the-floor and more ravey drum styles. The rest of the EP is great, but the standout is "Mirrors." When it hits 1:30, drop your lure and expect some bass. And no, I don't mean the fish.
