Over a decade after their debut, Strawhouses are back with Time in the Light, a 10-track album built from songs that have been developing for years.
Rather than sounding like a look back, the record feels focused on getting those songs across in the strongest way possible.
The album covers themes of love, loss, and the passing of time, but it keeps things personal.
"No Other Way Round" stands out as a song about a relationship that fell apart because two people were chasing different goals. Elsewhere, "Fireworks" draws on First World War poetry, while "My Saving Grace" and closing track "The Last Day" tackle mortality from very different angles.
Musically, Strawhouses give these songs plenty of room to grow. Strings, trumpet, piano, synths, and layered guitars appear throughout the album, adding depth without overwhelming the material. Tracks like "Back When You Cared" and "Circling the Drain" show how effectively the band balance bigger arrangements with direct, well-crafted songwriting.
That balance is what makes Time in the Light work so well. The production gives the album a broad scope, but the focus always stays on the stories and emotions at the center of each track.
