Swedish pop icon Robyn has announced her ninth studio album, Sexistential, arriving March 27th via Young, marking her first full-length release since 2018's critically acclaimed Honey.
After an extended break between albums and having earned titles such as the "Queen of Sad Bangers" and "LGBTQ icon," Robyn is ready to introduce listeners to her latest dance-pop universe.
Throughout her career, Robyn has pioneered the integration of electronic and indie elements into unmistakably sharp pop melodies.
Her return has, for sure, already generated massive enthusiasm.
Earlier this year, Robyn released the album's lead single, "Dopamine," alongside two remixes, setting the stage for what's to come.
Now Robyn's dropped a double single featuring her title track, "Sexistential," and "Talk to Me," the latter marking her reunion with Max Martin for the first time since 2010.
The new material explores new sonic territory while maintaining her signature approach, marrying emotionally complex narratives with danceable production.
More mature and seemingly more ready, Robyn speaks with greater realism while never losing her romanticism or need for connection.
As Robyn puts it: "I feel like the purpose of my life is to stay horny – it doesn't even have to be about sex." That philosophy essentially captures the entire album's ethos: celebrating desire and connection in all their forms with no guilt.
Between Honey and Sexistential, Robyn continued working on side projects, collaborating with Jamie xx on his album In Waves and appearing on Charli XCX's Brat, and it's completely different but also still brat.
Those collaborations kept her connected to contemporary pop's landscape while she developed her own next chapter.
