Near the end of April, the New York-born David Burke—somewhat better known as d4vd—took his stylish bedroom pop to the next level with the release of his debut album Withered, which arrived after a pair of introductory EPs and high-profile linkups with the likes of Kali Uchis and Laufey.
He's just about to take the album on tour, with a staggering itinerary in hand; kicking off tonight in Arizona, it runs through December with a quartet of dates in Australia. Homegrown support hannah bahng opens those shows, which means there's a high likelihood of them performing Burke's new song together.
Signalling the release of Withered Deluxe: Marcescence (the title of which continues the floral throughline from his debut EP, a nice touch), "L.O.V.E.U" is a summery, appropriately loved-up duet between Burke and the Sydney-based bahng.
Sincere and affecting in its unashamed romanticism, the pair trade verses that match the playful yet heartfelt energy of the song's video, directed by bahng herself.
According to Burke, the collaboration happened completely organically: "hannah and I clicked pretty fast after meeting at a concert recently. She was super into how I make music on my phone, so I started something, sent it her way, and we just ran with it. We love it.”
It's good not to overthink things sometimes, David, we get it!
Withered Deluxe: Marcescence is slated for release sometime this summer on Darkroom Records / Interscope. The song's video and the entire North American tour run are below; meanwhile, bahng's got The Misunderstood EP arriving on Friday, September 12th.
