Taiwanese American artist JVNA has just unleashed her latest single "Angels Falling". The track is the first of the year from this multi instrumentalist, singer, songwriter and creative. "Angels Falling" is an enthralling hyperpop meets pop electronic envelopment. Heart pounding bass-heavy beats underlay confident vocals, colliding synths and mood-heavy sonics. "Angels Falling" features a soaring cinematic chorus that is captivating and immersive. JVNA is an artist to watch with her unique sonic blend and dynamic performance.

We chat with JVNA all about her new music, Twitch, writing in her bedroom and more. The result is a deep dive into the mind of a creative mastermind.

Hi JVNA, congrats on your new single "Angels Falling". Can you tell our readers more about what the song is about thematically?

It’s about believing in yourself even when you’re in a descent and going “downwards” in your life by whatever conventional societal norms may see it as. Someone could easily shift the perspective and say hey I’m going to choose to thrive and see myself as a “star” even though my circumstances suck right now (referencing the lyric “all of the stars are angels falling”), and I think that is when people evolve into their strongest selves.

How does "Angels Falling" sonically differ from your previous musical releases?

My new song “Angels Falling” is a bit more hyperpop/alt-pop driven than my previous melodic bass-focused music. It's the first track of many where I am exploring a new part of my sound after taking some time to consume and discover new art that I’m interested in.

Where was this song written? How does place and time influence you and your writing process?

The song was written in my bedroom studio in late winter of December, right before the new year. I was going through a period of my life where I felt very boxed and caged by expectations of me from the outside and within my mindset. I shared these feelings with my co-writer, Halo Boy, about it. He shared a similar experience, and we decided to write a song about defying expectations, embracing change, and trusting ourselves. Hence the lyric “all of the stars are angels falling”

Were you listening to or watching anything in particular during the recording and writing process?

I watched the Wong Kar Wai film “Fallen Angels” and was moved by it. I think the title of the film definitely influenced the creation of this song.

Do you think there is a perfect time and place to listen to the music, does it lend itself to a particular listening experience?

When you decide to be brave and change something you’ve always wanted to change about your life, when you decide to leave your job that you don’t love to pursue your passions, when life decides to rain on you but you power through with resilience, or when you’re just feeling like being cvnty :)

What do you like most about being a popular Twitch creator?

I love that I can get to know some of them. Sometimes I will do voice calls with my subscribers and they will just tell me the most fascinating stories of their lives…and it like stories you’ll never hear elsewhere because some of the most interesting people aren’t necessarily people who are the most vocal and blabby about it, and it's fun that some of the conversations I have with them end up revealing some really interesting stories that end up giving me and my community different perspectives on what’s out here in this world.

Finally, what's next for JVNA?

There’s a lot more crazy art coming soon!
