London trio ashnymph are barely six months old, but their debut single “Saltspreader” feels like a band already burning through the slow lane. Made up of Will Wiffen (vocals/guitars/keys), Jonny Pyke (drums), and Lucy (Ciera Lucia) on bass/vocals/keys, harness the sweaty backroom energy of sharing stages with the UK’s rising underground class. They’re also fast out of the gate, landing a deal with cult indie label Blitzcat Records.
“Saltspreader” is a warped, industrial love letter to both dancefloor chaos and the hum of engine grease, channelling MGMT’s melodic instinct and Does It Offend You, Yeah?’s skewed metallic fragments as it goes.
Wiffen’s vocal teeter between reflection and mania, riding over mangled synths, contorted guitar stabs, and a rhythm section that hits like a hydraulic press. It’s all coated in a sonic gloss that’s as DIY as it is meticulous. It feels like there’s heart in the machine.
The track captures the romance of movement, isolation, and the daydreams that flicker behind tired eyes. It’s equal parts head spin and heartstring without ever feeling derivative.
Ashnymph are weaponising music to their fullest potential. “Saltspreader” doesn’t play it safe or whisper promises. It crashes in, glowing with nostalgia and grit, and announces a band that already sounds too weird, too focused, and too good to ignore, which is a wildly exciting place to start.
