Angelo LeRoi shares poignant new EP, 'eLRoi'

Angelo LeRoi, the Chicago-based singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer, has just shared his new EP eLRoi. A warm, unfailingly personal collection of love songs rooted in reverence for the beauty found in everyday life, the five-track project is fully self-produced, written, and recorded by LeRoi himself. Hailing from Los Angeles, he grew up infatuated with Prince, The White Stripes, and Jimi Hendrix, which inspired him to pick up the guitar when he was just seven years old. Though his early passion for alternative music meant he originally envisioned himself as part of a band, his discovery of artists like Tyler, The Creator, Frank Ocean, and Kendrick Lamar during the 2010s soon motivated him to embark on a solo career. Equipped with a one-man-band mindset and his DIY-centric ethos, he taught himself to play bass, keys, drums, and honed his singing chops- opting to study at Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he graduated with a degree in contemporary writing and production. He eventually connected with North Carolina poet laureate MAVI and has played an integral role in both his and close affiliate MESSIAH!’s transitions from making sample-driven music to creating songs they could envision one day being sampled by other people. The eclectic musician now returns with his latest EP eLRoi, an elegant, multi-dimensional set of tracks drenched in soul and emotion, featuring layered songwriting and heartfelt melodies.

On eLRoi, Angelo LeRoi harnesses a smoky, soulful, and rich sound that draws influence from blues, soul, R&B, and more. His versatility and sharp songwriting ability shines through, with a set of five tracks that are personality rich and infectious. "IF YOU KNEW" is a lush, emotive opener that blends orchestral elements with enticing grooves and catchy, potent vocals. The cathartic, expansive sound of "THAT'S HOW MUCH" utilizes classic soul and gospel influences to a captivating effect, while LeRoi's smooth, warm vocal performance further immerses the listener. "ANOTHER MAN" is a hypnotic track and a highlight on the EP, containing atmospheric guitar riffs that produce an ethereal effect, paired with organic-sounding percussion and otherworldly vocals.

Angelo LeRoi's latest finds the multi-talented musician delivering an engaging new release that cohesively blends influences from old school soul, R&B, and blues with modern stylings for an emotionally rich sonic journey.
