LE BRUIT dazzles in duality with haunting double a-side “Idle Hands / Au Solde des Nuits”

LE BRUIT, French for “the noise,” reminds us how strong an impression patience, texture, and cinematic depth can leave. On their debut 7-inch double A-side, "Idle Hands / Au Solde des Nuits," the Anglo-French trio envelops.

With writing and vocal duties assumed by Tom and Johanna, LE BRUIT makes a strong case for the atmospheric, moody, slow-burn rock atmosphérique. They offer a gentle but purposeful storm, intimacy in stripped-down songwriting widened out into the squall of post-rock, shoegaze shimmer, and stoner grit. This music resonates in the room long after the last note has disappeared.

“Idle Hands,” the A-side, starts with baritone guitar lines that sound grounding and ghostly, flitting over dreamy percussion. The words “with the sun behind you and the shadow of who you are” leading the way hang in the air like a mantra for anyone who’s ever struggled with identity in the rearview. With this gem being named Absolute Radio UK’s ‘Self-Released Song of the Month’ at the end of 2024, it’s no wonder Danielle Perry’s accolade “It's mystique with the beautiful songwriting” nails it on the head. The mystique is for real and global, having now received airplay from the UK to the US and Europe.

The AA-side, "Au Solde des Nuits," takes things into an even more private world. A bilingual meditation on absence and longing, it laces delicate lines in French and English with gospel-leaning harmonies and aching vocal interplay. There’s a tenderness here, a self-imposed restraint that creates emotional pressure without letting it overflow. It is as much a feeling as a song that aches in slow motion and demands to be experienced alone. “Best listened to late at night, when absence echoes,” the band informs, and it’s true. LE BRUIT’s "Idle Hands/Au Solde des Nuits" is a mood, a statement, and a promise. They’ve created an expansive, vulnerable, and indelible world with just two tracks.

Their debut double A-side 7-inch vinyl, "Idle Hands/Au Solde des Nuits," is now available via Rough Trade. Purchase here.
