We owe you an explanation. It's a direct statement to fans of the previous LA-based rap collective, grouptherapy., and the title of a new EP from PARTYOF2. After a fallout with former grouptherapy. member, TJOnline, the two remaining members, SWIM and Jadagrace, set out on a new path with PARTYOF2. Laying dormant since March 2024, the new hip-hop duo resurfaced back in January 2025 with a new sense of identity and purpose, teasing new music. Over the weekend, PARTYOF2 released their debut EP, we owe you an explanation.
Throughout the three-track project, Jadagrace and SWIM trade-targeted verses as they set the tone for a road map to navigate this new territory. The accompanying visuals and promo for the eventual EP showcased the best parts of the duo while helping fans of their previous project find answers.
The opening track, "mad love," breaks through the awkwardness of it all with a 90s rap beat feel. Sounding like something one might hear in the background of the film, House Party, the chorus repeats, "who's mad at me?" as if to question the hate. By the song's end, listeners can't help but join in on the infectious pondering. The duo holds nothing back in their love of their haters and the few who try to downplay their skill set. Keeping in line with their name, PARTYOF2 assures they will press on.
If the first track addressed faceless haters, the second track "poser" allows PARTYOF2 to spin back around the block to double-tap their enemies. Bonnie and Clyde style the two rappers have helped elevate each other. The lyrics are sharp enough for Jadagrace to drag you outside your own house while SWIM adds pressure to the entire beating.
The closing track, "all 4 the best" is probably the most direct address of the previous situation. Despite still keeping it vague (whether for their previous member's privacy or whatever,) the duo does give hints to the pain the rappers are feeling for their lost brother and friend. "Lost a piece of me and it was tragic/I done been through things you can't imagine/I wish that I could tell you how it happened."
The frustration and confusion is apparent in the track. As PARTYOF2 works through it, fans of the grouptherapy. look toward healing. "We was s'posed to be fam til the wrinkly skin…This a pain even group therapy couldn't mend"
With the EP finished, seems things are finally off the chest of Jadagrace and SWIM. After months of speculation, one would hope the needs of their fans have been met. Like many collectives before, an artist is only as good as their next project. For PARTYOF2, the passion for music and the creative aspect of their music was never in doubt. As they say, the party must go on.
