Southern California indie-rap artist Bronson Scott forges a track that feels just as euphoric as it does heartfelt with “Mistakes,” tapping into his genre-bending signature stripped-back, indie musicality.
Led by his emotive vocals, the track blossoms at the crossroads of lo-fi, washed-out indie and hip-hop, as Scott pays homage to classic soul influences as well as timeless rap artists. An alluring production framed by his lyrical maturity and carefully crafted sonic mastery, the guitar-laden track is an intimate showcase of vulnerability.
Speaking of the inspiration behind the track, he says, “I was coming to grips with failure. I was starting to accept that maybe I’d just have a regular job and a regular life and at least I wouldn’t be struggling or starving and maybe that was enough. Maybe I didn’t need this epic career in music. It was still sad though because I loved music and knew I’d always write songs. I was really just reflecting on every way that I fucked up over the past decade. Drinking too much, dating the wrong women, wasting time–I had no one to blame but me. All the time we waste in our youth. It’s hard not to think, “What if I did it differently?”
Shaping up a reflective yet catchy artistry inspired by his personal experiences, Scott’s introspective but relatable music continues to evolve as he shapes up his upcoming EP All Plants Go To Heaven – leaving us with plenty of anticipation for what’s to come.
