Genre-bending artist Anella Herim calls out those who overlooked him on latest release, “Don’t HMU.” Through a catchy hook and melodic bars, the contemporary rapper warns, “Don’t hit me up now.” The accompanying visual follows him during a Mr. Rogers-inspired day in his neighborhood.
“Don’t HMU” has a simple hip-hop beat with subtle bass. His delivery is calculated and poised with an effortless charisma. He vocalizes the chorus before hopping back into tapered verses. He raps, “The same artists used to curve me on my Insta now jackin’ content so they all lookin’ like my sons.” In the creative music video, he is seen watering plants in a yard while a beautiful woman jogs by and flashes him a smile.
After teasing the song on socials, the release has garnered over 6 million streams on Spotify and achieved viral success across multiple platforms. He says, “We literally recorded that in a cabin on my birthday. So, I guess my advice would be don’t mind the pressure, what’s meant to be, will be.” While currently on tour with Kidd G, Herim continues to build his fanbase releasing both rap and country singles. With an adaptable sound and cult following, he is an integral part of the next generation of music.
