Prague-based alt-pop artist Elisa May has just unveiled her new single “Black Lines.” Written when she was just 16 years old, the track is fueled with teenage rebellion, as she offers a raw depiction of her life and emotions at the time. The songwriter shares, “I was sixteen. I hated my parents. I hated my boyfriend. I hated everything and the world was unfair. Teen angst, baby.” This period of adolescent turmoil is recognizable for almost every listener, as we reflect back on a time in our lives when we fought against the injustices we felt and struggled to find our place in the world.

Elisa sings about being ensnared in an unhealthy relationship, whether with a partner, friend, or family member. Desperate to break free from their grasp, when she finally escapes she becomes totally illuminated, discovering a newfound sense of freedom and clarity.

Sonically “Black Lines” mirrors the evolution of her story and emotions, starting with eerie, ethereal instrumentation as she searches for her footing, and gradually building to a determined beat and uplifting atmosphere as she forges her own path.

We’re excited to hear more from Elisa May, with “Black Lines” marking the beginning of a very exciting chapter.
