Killer Mikes pens songs for saints and sinners.

An epilogue to the award-winning album “Michael”.

Micheal & the Midnight Revival: Songs for Sinners And Saints sees Killer Mike painting a picture of a lifestyle of those who might be considered sinners transforming into saints. Furthermore, the tone speaks of redemption, victory, and hope. It sounds like his personal testimony of him triumphing and becoming who he was destined to become. His references to being a major part of the community in Atlanta and having powerful relationships stem from his community activity.

The production has a good diversity from track to track with samples and vocals grabbing the ears of the listeners. From Track one to track ten, there's a beautiful annotation of redemption as well as grace and favor. Inspiring concepts from former relationships, expected pregnancies, trappin’ in traffic, and an ode to those struggling with drug addiction; true passion and superb lyrics aided to encourage the listeners to strive on. “I was wrong, but one day, you heard my prayer, so grant me better days, Father, it was you”-Troy Durden as a vocalist on “Had to go get it”.

Tracks

“Bussin bricks intro” comes in with a James Brown sample, a blessing. Production has a slight sound of grunge hip-hop infused with soulful samples throughout the record. Killer Mike is Repping where he’s from.

“Nobody Knows” is a beautiful piece of victory through trials and tribulations surely. Lyrics are beautifully written with a timeless piece of production. "Nobody knows" is a record that can resonate with almost any demographic of people.

"Humble Me" comes in with a powerful speech from Muhammad Ali, so the vocals are a perfect blend with the substance of the lyrics. A real reflection of life in between the gaps of chasing greatness. Reminiscent of the good and bad. It's a beautiful space of crisp drums and enticing snares.

“Higher level” is a mix of the vocals that give off the flavor of Texas’ chopped and screwed scene. The samples from legendary Atlanta collective Trillville give depth to the record. Soft vocals accent his flow as he raps as if his life is flashing before him on the mic. A break where the vocalist drops an inspirational feel into church keys playing out the record.

Personal Favorites

“Exit 9” is a beautiful mix of heartfelt lyrics from Killer Mike and Offset with Blxst blessing us on the chorus, along with beautiful placements and a soulful bass guitar being played on the production.

“LORD PREPARE ME,” is a record reminiscing of having to do what you have to do in tough circumstances, but knowing the only reason he got through the circumstances was because of the grace and mercy of God. A Powerful record, with church keys on the production to move the emotions of the soul.

Belly Gang Kushington features an amazing verse, which could even be slightly controversial for believers, but ended with a powerful statement of transparency of faith and the only ifs we submitted to God how he needed. The vocalist added beautiful soul and heartfelt tones.

“SLUMMER FOR JUNKIES” starts with an aggressive flow, but displays a storytelling ability of how Killer Mike could've become a father in a couple of circumstances surrounding teenage love and youthful decisions. He ends the record with an ode to those struggling with drug addiction stating this is for them in a way to give them the flowers they need as humans. It's a ten-minute record but an elevating ten minutes. It gets better and better as the song progresses with some beautiful vocals.

“HAD TO GET IT” is a reminder of the reality of particular lifestyles. In essence, the reality is that we all rely on God in the same way for grace even when we are absolutely in the wrong. Once Troy Durden blesses us with amazing vocals with a move of passion the record ends beautifully.

“97 3-6 FREESTYLE" has the sound of extreme hunger, it sounds as if he’s making a statement lyrically. You can hear it in his tone and in the production. The production is hardcore, with keys playing out to the end.

“STILL TALKING SH*T” has some well-fitted features from legendary rappers Project Pat and Key Glock and direct lyrics to the haters and doubters. A slight sound of Memphis hip-hop. Project Pat blesses us with his unique flow equally as with his energy and delivery. This has the feel of hype energy. A very balanced record, and a strong way to end an album by stating you won't be slowed.

Micheal & The Midnight Revival: Songs for Sinners and Saints sonically transitions from record to record. Indeed every feature complemented each record beautifully. The vocalists blended well with the production with almost no contrast. It's well-produced and features some riveting storytelling, soulful and heartfelt lyrics, and substance-packed choruses. Once the album ends you feel full of thoughts about what it takes to get to where you're trying to get to in life.
