Barbara Unveils Witty New Single "Property-Owning Democracy"

Following a stellar performance opening for Paul Weller at Edinburgh Castle on July 13th, Brighton's baroque-alternative-pop duo Barbara has released their latest single, "Property-Owning Democracy." The track, produced by the renowned Paul Steel, blends 70s glam pop with contemporary flair, addressing the irony of financial struggles despite hard work and education.

Brothers Henry and John Tydeman craft music with a unique blend of bright organs, shuffling drums, swelling synths, and dappled strings, with a literary and intellectual approach to songwriting that shines through. Drawing influences from Harold Pinter, George Orwell, and Ray Davies, the track's quirky charm is reminiscent of T-Rex's chord progressions and Mika's pop radiance.

Barbara's new single tells the story of a character struggling to make ends meet, a theme many can relate to. "We love songs that tell stories," the band explains, "and there's a character in 'Property-Owning Democracy' that people might recognise in themselves or others."

Having toured with Paul Weller and The Divine Comedy, Barbara is set for an exciting 2024. For tickets and more information, visit Barbara's official website.
