Based in the stunning coastal county of Cornwall, UK, it’s no surprise that singer/songwriter Nathan Ball creates music that is equally as awe-inspiring as his surroundings. His latest single “Stateline,” sonically mimics his hometown, with sweeping glistening soundscapes, calming, meditative melodies, and soothing vocals that penetrate deep into your soul.
Originally written while on tour in Australia, as he soaked up all the new encounters and environments he found himself in, Ball initially found inspiration in the transient nature of life on the road.
However, “Stateline” quickly progressed in its narrative, with Ball sharing, “It's an adaptation of the story of Icarus ignoring advice and flying too close to the sun and meeting his demise. It's a coming-of-age love song about dreaming your life away and the innocent beauty of young love, only to be brought back down to earth and all its reality.”
The story of Icarus is reflected in the song with the songwriter comparing it to the idea of chasing dreams before eventually falling back into reality with a bump. We are all familiar with life’s constant ups and downs and Ball captures the rollercoaster of emotions we experience perfectly in “Stateline” while simultaneously delivering a beautiful depiction of life and love.
The emotional and reflective song shimmers with vibrant guitars, and upbeat percussion as Ball’s comforting vocals take us on a metaphorical journey. Embodying both the beauty and heartbreak of youthful dreams, “Stateline” is set to be our new summer anthem.
