The halfway point of 2024 is here and right on time and the music industry is delivering the best rotation of fresh summer anthems that we've seen in a while. Usually, the conversation about who's running the summer is denser, but this year, there are too many nominees to count. Between songs already dominating the charts for months and viral unreleased tracks, fans, and DJs have plenty of heaters to keep the pregames and parties going. This list highlights the artists projected to make the most noise this summer.
Cash Cobain
Notable Summer 2024 Bangers: "Fisherr", "Dunk Contest", "Attitude"
Allen Iverson and the crossover. Pharrell and the four-count start. And the latest signature move that never seems to get old: Cash Cobain stomping the drum kick. Since the year began, the N.Y. rapper has taken the game by storm with his own Sexy Drill sound. The world got its first taste of Cash with his instant hit "Fisherr" and hasn't been able to get enough since. Collecting collaborations with everyone from Don Toliver to J. Cole, the 26-year-old is not running out of ways to combine his production with other artists to make something new. Regardless of who comes out as the favorite, it's clear that we are witnessing a very Slizzy summer.
Sexyy Red
Notable Summer 2024 Bangers: "Get It Sexyy", "U My Everything", "Grape Trees"
The defending Runner of the Summer Sexyy Red simply is not stopping anytime soon. Her ability to maintain her authenticity while consistently producing bonafide hits is undeniable. It's something that either you have or you don't and clearly, Sexyy has it. She already has another anthem on her hands with the Tay Keith-produced hit "Get it Sexyy." "U My Everything" is the perfect bop to drunkenly sing to your summer boo late at night. And "Grape Trees" is a slept-on banger and proof that she needs to drop a collab project with Chief Keef. Wherever the party is, the playlist at the function isn't anything without some Sexyy in it.
Tommy Richman
Notable Summer 2024 Bangers: "Million Dollar Baby", "Devil Is A Lie (Unreleased)"
Tommy Richman may have the most unexpected entry into the discussion, but he's far from making the least amount of noise. Since the Virginia native catapulted to stardom with his smash hit "Million Dollar Baby" in March, the singer has capitalized on his momentum by using social media to his advantage. Following the strategy he used for his first hit, Tommy has been consistently dropping content containing unreleased snippets. His latest being "Devil Is A Lie," seeming to be his next single, already destined for success. With the year still early, there's no telling what else Tommy has in store for the summer and the rest of the year.
Glorilla
Notable Summer '24 Bangers: "Yeah, Glo", "Wanna Be", "95 Degrees (Unreleased)"
After taking a break last year, Big Glo is coming back this year dropping some heavy-hitting records. For anyone who thought she was slowing down, Glorilla may be in store for her biggest year to date. She's already found her back on the top 40 with her chant-like jam "Yeah Glo!." Then, she followed up with her latest Ehhthang Ehhthang, containing her viral sensation "Wanna Be" with Megan thee Stallion. But her biggest track is arguably not even officially available yet. For anyone paying attention, her highly anticipated "95 Degrees" is already running the DJ sets and TikTok sounds with only a 30-second snippet available. Imagine what's going to happen when it finally sees a release date and becomes available on DSPs. Without a doubt, Glo may have a, if not, THE song of the summer on her hands.
Bossman Dlow
Notable Summer 2024 Bangers: "Talk My Shit", "Get In With Me", "Finesse", Unreleased Collabs with Babyface Ray and Lil Baby
Since his "Get In With Me" freestyle on "Kreepin Through The Streetz" surfaced online, the Florida rapper has been on a memorable run within his rookie year. It wasn't long before he saw two more singles: "Mr Pot Scraper" and "Finesse," receive heavy radio and social media rotation throughout the past few months. Judging by recent reports, the Florida rapper still has some hits tucked in the chamber, having possible collaborations with Babyface Ray and Lil Baby. If he doesn't end up running the summer, he's a heavy favorite as Rap's rookie of the year with this summer being proof.
Kaytranada
Notable Summer 2024 Bangers: The entire album "Timeless" if we're being honest
Everyone knows that any summer that Kaytranada drops a new album is a good summer. We used to pray for times like this to vibe like this.
Anyone who has listened to his latest full-length release Timeless can tell you that this is a multi-faceted summer soundtrack from start to finish. It doesn't matter if you're ready to take the party to another level or looking to relax and enjoy the weather, Kaytranada has you covered. The lush production and warm instrumentation throughout this LP breathes a clean energy into eardrums that fills listeners up with serotonin and makes them want to dance. Kaytranada's newest album is exactly what 85 degrees and an "Out of Office" status is supposed to sound like.
Mustard
Notable Summer 2024 Bangers: "Not Like Us", upcoming "Faith of A Mustard Seed" album
It's no argument to say that DJ Mustard is already responsible for the biggest track of the year, producing another #1 hit with Kendrick Lamar, "Not Like Us". For those counting out, the multi-platinum producer is showing everyone that he has plenty of gas left in the tank. So much so that he's ready to follow up on his momentum in his forthcoming album, Faith of a Mustard Seed.
As the West Coast is having a shining moment this year, it's the perfect time for the Los Angeles native to flood the streets with some more hits. None of the album's features are confirmed, but fans are assured to be in for a treat if Mustard is locked in on delivering a full-length.
