EZI is singer-songwriter and actress Esther Zyskind. The creator and openly LGBTQ+ artist has just unveiled her latest banger. Called "Cold Cement", the song follows her single releases of "Play God" and "She's Back" shared earlier this year.
"Cold Cement" is a metaphor for the hardness and negative toughness of EZI's ex lover when she found out who they really were deep inside. The song dives deep into heartbreak and also the destructive behaviors many of us experience falling for someone again and again who is wrong for us. Lyrics including, "Guess I fell on my face again / Hit my head on the cold cement / And its more than a scrap / But I'm loving the pain / So I find my way back again / I know better than this," show that she knows these love affairs are toxic but for some reason she keeps going back. Sonically, "Cold Cement" enthralls with pitch-black synths, emotive intricate guitars and mood drenched soulful vocals. A searing string arrangement also adds to the eeriness of the musical envelopment. With "Cold Cement", EZI has created a haunting, infectious and important alt pop song.
EZI hails from Long Island, New York and found success early on as an actress for the Nickelodeon series The Other Kingdom. Throwing herself into music, she signed to Steve Madden's 5Towns Records after a spontaneous meeting with the famed designer at his store in New York City. Her releases soon went viral amassing over 40 million streams. The artist returns with a highly anticipated upcoming album Into Your Power, Into The Light set for release later this year. Take a listen to "Cold Cement" now and remember to leave what doesn't serve you.
