Alana Yorke encapsulates creative triumph and a personal transformation on forthcoming record Destroyer, marking the record’s announcement with lead single “Marion.” An intense and expressive soundscape that weaves through loss and living, the track blends emotive vocals with echoing and layered beats to make for a powerful sonic experience.

Crafted after the death of Yorke’s maternal grandmother, the track ruminates on how loved one can continue to live on through us, highlighting grief and touches of confidence all at once. Speaking of the story behind the track, Yorke says, "After my grandmother's passing, I was looking through old family photo albums, and the deep brown eyes of my grandmother really spoke to me, but also the 'green and gold' hazel eyes of myself as a young toddler. Eyes became a link between generations, what we share in ways that are difficult to understand."

The track is accompanied by a music video that draws from modern expressionists, bringing the song to life through movement. She explains, “ I wanted a landscape that was focal, and I wanted to come up out of the earth and disappear back into it.  This represents our emergence into life (birth), and the return to the earth (death), and the meaning and lyrics of the song mirror that perfectly.

With dream-like vocals and a minimalist piano style, Yorke’s captivating musicality born out of mid-80’s synth-pop influences has set her up as exciting new voice in Canadian independent music.
