St. Croix (U.S. Virgin Islands) raised rapper, songwriter, and entrepreneur Rio Thomas returns with a new single "Turning Point" which comes with a video clip. The track centers on self-growth, awareness and the moment of clarity after a period of soul searching. Bolstered by a warm and soulful soundscape made up of lush samples with no drum grooves, Rio takes listeners on a journey where he details his shortcomings and finally his maturation. Armed with his laidback, unassuming flow and off-kilter songwriting and lines like "there's a mirror in the water, I saw my reflection/I saw perfection, it's been a while it's been wild, the bullshit piled up/I found my inner child and smiled/It's like a resurrection although we never died", he offers some insight into his thought process. The accompanying video is shot DIY style and makes use of performance shots of the rapper in the woods. Simple but effective if you ask me.
"Turning Point" is the title track from his new EP which is the follow-up to his previous EP Long Way Home. Both projects are produced by Damien Rose.
