DOUG is an exciting collective based in Saint Louis, Missouri, made up of emcees Donovan RaMon (Don Hunter), POET X (José Marks), Wasly (Wes Ragland), and Ché Sanchez and live band headed by multi-instrumentalists Owen Ragland, Mickey Hayes, and Jake Felix Nelson. The style of live instrumentation infused with soulful hip-hop hinges on the strength of their years of participating in numerous jam sessions and cyphers but became more focused and cohesive in 2020 when Hayes started composing for the group. Now as they prepare to release their debut album, the group releases their lead single "BUY YOU THE WORLD" with its captivating visual. The track has a laidback, atmospheric feel with funk-soul elements peppered by reflective raps and a sublime hook to match.
The accompanying visual was directed by Anthony Gaddis who uses eye-popping animation with live action scenes.
Sidenote: Around this time the moniker "DOUG" was adopted as an acronym for "Doing Our United Good", and the band was officially born with the release of their self-titled EP on Christmas Eve, 2022.
