Detroit-based contemporary folk musician Michelle Held started as a stage actress with a decade-plus experience before she ventured fully into the world of music. Gifted with an old Fender acoustic guitar and curiosity she dived into the works of Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, and Nina Simon which opened her mind to a whole new world of music rich in poetry, relatable and profound songwriting. Alongside her stage work she has been performing and developing her music for years and she is taking center stage with the release of her debut single "The World Moves On".
The track is a sombre and uplifting folk ballad that sees Michelle reflecting on the fleeting nature of this thing called life and her own experiences dealing with personal loss and the dynamics of life-changing events. Backed by a rich and solemn acoustic guitar arrangement, Michelle looks back at the various episodes in her life and while it wasn't all sunny and rosy, she leaned towards the bright side and hoped her positive message would bring joy to others. Lines like "We are frightened by things we don’t understand/Like where the soul does meet the earth or the color of a man/A hero paved us a better way and handed over the baton/Ain’t it funny the way the world moves on" dig deep into her thoughts and leave listeners with something to ponder on.
