Transformative Ghanaian singer/songwriter Y'Akoto has just shared her latest R&B meets pop offering. Called "WMYT", the single is released via Boom Records and is shared alongside an enthralling new music video.
"WMYT" is an autobiographical narrative all about Y'Akoto leaving a toxic relationship and a disrespectful ex in the middle of the night. Lyrics including, "Put his hands on my halo / Yeah he really wanted me to lay low / Turn the lights off on me /I’m not a star, I’m the galaxy," show that Y'Akoto knows her worth and won't tolerate a love partner who brings her down. Musically, "WMYT" is a slow-burned lush R&B thriller complete with the songwriter's signature warm and confident vocals. The single produced by Nabeyin (Drake) features a stunning mix of of pop, R&B, dance and Afrobeats for an intoxicating listen. The accompanying music video shows Y'Akoto dancing, finding the healing power of a crystal and enjoying a ride in a vintage car against a variety of vibrant colors mirroring the song's meaning of strength and inner confidence.
Y'Akoto had a unique upbringing as a child of a famous Ghanaian recording artist. Having lived in Germany, France and Ghana, where she now resides, Y'Akoto channels her unique storied past into her music, with a raw and authentic storytelling rarely found today. Check out "WMYT" now and remember to always stand up for what you deserve in romance and in life.
