Lady Donli embodies her true spirit in "My Ability" [video]

Rising Nigerian alternative act Lady Donli caught our ears some years ago with her distinct electro-house-infused record "Games" which was actually her first single of the year 2018. Fast forward to 2023, and the eclectic singer returns with her new single "My Ability". The infectious tune is a mix of social commentary underpinned by uplifting and women empowerment themes that continues Lady Donli's off-beat and somewhat out-the-box style. Led by a guitar-lick-driven mellow backdrop with dancehall and Afropop stylings, Lady Donli questions why society often looks down on women and relegates them. However, Lady Donli is not here for that and she proceeds to break all misogynistic tropes with her daring style which calls for all women to rise to the occasion and embrace their distinct abilities.

The accompanying visual is directed by Buhari Yesufu, a Lagos-based director who makes use of several empowering motifs throughout the shot. He puts Lady Donli and her crew in positions of power and shows how they can hold their own no matter the scenario they find themselves in.

Lady Donli adds that "My Ability" is more than just a song but a personal response to the challenges she has faced as a woman in a world that often questions her abilities and worth. Drawing from her own experiences of feeling underestimated and undervalued, Lady Donli has created a vibrant blend of Afrobeats and dancehall music that serves as a rallying cry for women worldwide to reclaim their power and confidence.

This song is for anyone who has ever felt like they didn't belong, and it's time to take back what's yours."

"My Ability" is the first official single off Lady Donli's highly anticipated sophomore album, Pan African Rockstar, scheduled to be released in August 2023.
