Toronto-based producer and multi-instrumentalist The Ugly Fun revives the DIY styling of 00s indie with vibrant number “Bounce,” bringing a sunny lo-fi pop sound together with garage sensibilities founded upon catchy guitar riffs and lush electro touches.
A track about a childhood friend he can’t find anywhere, despite living in an age of social media and hyper-connectivity, “Bounce,” is infused with the nostalgia of moments from a childhood friendship now lost to time.
Speaking of the friendship which inspired the track, he recalls, “We used to sleep on the roof of his house, make cassette tapes of our private conversations and break into the local high school on weekends hiding from the janitors behind costumes in the drama room, but I can’t find him. It’s like he disappeared. I hope he’s still alive; our childhood friendship will always haunt me.”
Managing to be infectious and gentle all at once, the track is the first of many offerings set to grace us in the run up to the rising producer’s EP release next year, as The Ugly Fun kicks off the beginning of an exciting musical journey.
