Alternative pop trio Them Fantasies have just shared a new uptempo single and accompanying video. Entitled "Billionaires", the track follows this year's releases of "Windbreaker" and "How Modest".
"Billionaires" is a brilliant musical satire and contemplation about the excess wealth found in the world. The song was created when billionaires such as Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos and Richard Branson were all competing to be the first men to have the first commercial space rocket. Them Fantasies question their narcissistic motives, wishing instead that money could be used for helping those less fortunate. Lyrics that show this theme include, "they got enough botox and gin/ The clock don't spin /Up there it's lonely and freezing /It sounds like their natural habitat/ Hang Saturn's ring around your neck/ Yo Elon, is there a self hanging mode yet?" In the accompanying visuals the trio further poke fun at these men with shots of them as rich men in lavish houses performing, throwing money around and taking a dip in the pool all in space suites. Musically, "Billionaires" fuses pop, electronic, rock and even dashes of hip-hop for an enthralling listen. The band lived in Spain for six month studying Flamenco and local Mediterranean music and that is further apparent in the soundscapes of "Billionaires".
Them Fantasies are members Dominic Cannarella (lead vocals, bass), Eric McCoy (guitars, backing vocals) and Max Meizlish (drums, tracks). The trio studied and met at the esteemed Berklee College of Music and moved to Los Angeles two years ago. All living together, the three further create music with a producer who also shares the house, making for a DIY and community creative effort. With more infectious music to come and a fresh perspective on social commentary, we can't wait to hear what is next from this dynamic threesome.
