BLACKSTARKIDS is a group of three alternative kids from Kansas City, working on rewriting what it means to make music. They met in high school around the age of 15-16 and formed their group in January 2019. These kids are pioneers of a new age of sound, never sticking to one genre. They are signed to the label, “Dirty Hit”, which was first made known after popular band The 1975 were the first artists to be signed. BLACKSTARKIDS has also worked with reputable artists such as beabadoobee and performed alongside huge artists like Glass Animals and Coin. They are influenced by a vast range of artists, which aligns with their genre-bending aesthetic. These influences include astonishing artists such as Nirvana, Mac DeMarco, and Tyler the Creator. They have a new mixtape that will be released on September 23rd titled CYBERKISS, which includes their newest single, “CYBERKISS 2 U*”, featuring indie sensation beabadoobee.

The song begins with a variety of poppy electronic sounds, and a high-pitched vocal singing, “What's your name?”. This track replicates the sound of a delightful video game soundtrack. The song fulminates with synths as artist beabadoobee comes in for the chorus, singing blissfully, “I just wanna send you a kiss”. The group takes inspiration from vocaloid and hyper pop music on this track, pitching their vocals very high for an engrossing sound. The sparkly synths are sporadically incorporated into the melody lines of the song, ingeniously. This song is an anthem for youth working hard to make it in the city and making sure they have fun while doing it.

These kids are definitely set to make a name for themselves in this industry, appealing to many different audiences with their varying sounds. This group has so far successfully done rap, hip-hop, rock, and hyper-pop songs, and there is no telling what they will give fans next. It is clear to see that their creativity is unmatched. It will be interesting to see what their upcoming release sounds like, along with the new genres they choose to dip their toes in, in the future.
