Nashville-based pop musician Ruelle drops tender production “Self Sabotage,” taken from her forthcoming five-track EP Somebody Else. Showcasing a shift away from the mysterious cinematic soundscapes that she’s become known for, this vulnerable track reveals a personal glimpse into the singer’s life and experiences.
Rooted in a conversation about intimacy and marriage, the track delves into a heartfelt tale about the musician’s tendency to self-sabotage her relationships in an effort to protect herself from getting hurt, unveiling as a romantic yet realistic look at her dynamics with her husband, as she learns to embrace the idea of putting effort into making a relationship work.
Framed around an aspect of push and pull, Ruelle balances a haunting electro-pop instrumentation and airy vocals pulled taut against a tension-filled visual which elevates relatable but poetic song writing of being your own enemy when it comes to finding love and trust with someone.
Stripping back on her elusive artistry to reveal the gentle heart behind it, the track co-written by Tofer Brown (Cher Lloyd, Lady A), Daniella Mason (Nick Jonas), and Robert Marvin (Tove Lo, Adam Lambert), leaves us anticipating the EP as it looks set to quietly reveal facets of the rising musician we haven’t seen before.
