Ever felt like you're so overwhelmed that you might as well be a grapefruit being squeezed?
"I don't know why / I don't know why / I'm thinking maybe I'm emotionally cursed," sings Toronto artist Alex Porat in the opening line to her new single, "Sensitive." Her lyrics are witty, the music video feels a bit satirical as she strokes various fruits and vegetable ever so gently–but she is feeling emotional, the kind of emotional that comes with a pout.
Relatable and anthemic at the same time, "Sensitive" has a pop sound that reminisces of Taylor Swift and beabadoobee. The steady kick drum and her smooth-honey vocal add a touch of natural cool to being over sensitive. It feels like viewing insecurity and emotional turmoil with a rose-colored tint–which she quite literally employs in the music video. "Sensitive" wallows over melodrama but in a playful, lighthearted way. Sure, you can certainly pout to this song, but you should invite your equally as sensitive best friends over to do it with you.
