Bay Area rapper Lil Bean takes a slower approach on latest release, “Sold Out Dates.” Toggling locations between a masquerade mansion party and a pay phone out in the rain, the accompanying music video follows the artist as he spits his bars. The mellow beat and abstract visuals act as a backdrop into the mind of the rapper.
“Sold Out Dates” has a simple hip-hop beat mixed with a high pitch voice that murmurs over the bass. The rapper’s verses are quick and polished with effortless finesse. The song has a tasteful juxtaposition of gangster rap and melancholy vulnerability. His bars are stacked, one leading into the next. He raps, “I’m so tired of fake love, keep that shit from round me. I’m so tired of fake hustling and all these fake cousins.” Frustration and pain spew from his mouth one verse after the next. He raps as if he is reading from the pages of his diary, exposing a deeper side to his craft.
Following the release of his latest album, Forever Grateful, the artist has been quick to drop new visuals for the project’s tracks. A staple in the Bay Area hip-hop scene, Lil Bean is now ready for mainstream recognition.
