Los Angeles based artist Polartropica has just unveiled her latest punk rock meets garage pop single and accompanying visuals for “GIVE THEM HELL (Serial Killer Slayer)”. The striking track marks a sonic departure for the artist leaning more into rock music than her previous electronic pop efforts.
In “GIVE THEM HELL (Serial Killer Slayer)”, Polartropica has written a fearless feminist anthem all about self defense. She confides, the track was “inspired by bad b$#(*& that fight back when faced with kidnappers, predators, serial killers, folks attacking seniors.” With riot grrrl influenced soundscapes, bright drums and an untamed pop-punk vocal delivery, Polartropica has succeeded in crafting a powerful and explosively hard-hitting single of empowerment.
According to the press release, the creative music video tells the story of “an underground fight club made up of queer superheroes competing to see who will be crowned to take on the serial killer.” Throughout the captivating visuals, viewers can see glimpses of the superhero’s childhood and how they acquired their unique defense abilities including the ninja using fruit to fight and the neon matcha competitor who uses the magical power found in plants to defeat their opponent.
Polartropica is the musical project of Taiwanese American Ihui (eeway) Cherise Wu. The imaginative artist, musician and songwriter, has built a dedicated fanbase performing at festivals and venues across the U.S. “GIVE THEM HELL (Serial Killer Slayer)” marks the first single of 2022 from the space dream pop rock artist with more music to come.
