All the turbulent events of the past few years, from lockdowns to perpetual social inequalities, have brought about heightened anxiety and tension in streets around the globe, but with any hope, they have also reminded us to acknowledge and appreciate the understated bright spots in life as well. Danish artist Marie Dahlstrom has done the latter with her latest single “He Is.” Written for her then unborn son during lockdown, the touching new track is the first preview of Dahlstrom’s forthcoming EP entitled Safe Place, which is set for release October 29 on her own label JFH Records.

In line with her signature style established on her acclaimed debut album Like Sand from last year, “He Is” features poignant harmonies and delicately soulful vocals as Dahlstrom croons about the impact of new life and parenthood. Hearty bass notes from Jay Asafo and lush string orchestration from Sipprell fill out the arrangement that pays beautiful tribute to the connection between parent and child, both in music and words. Dahlstrom punctuates the song’s message with the line, “He might not be much like me at all / he might be a mirror to my soul / whoever he’ll become, I’ll give him my all.” The warmth and unconditional love conveyed in her vocals are palpable throughout the track, reminding us that amid all the trials thrown at us in life, there are always glimmers of positivity to be found as well.

"He Is" is available to stream or download here.
