Naarm (Melbourne) based future soul artist Tiana Khasi rebels against the lockdown blues by enlisting producers from Australia and New Zealand to reimagine her debut EP Meghalaya. In anticipation of the full release which is set to premiere on October 2nd via Soul Has No Tempo we have been treated to the first single – a remix of "Whole Lotta Shine". Who better to tackle this fierce, bouncy and playful track than Sampology, Tiana's long-time friend and collaborator who also co-wrote and produced the original record.

Tiana Khasi · Whole Lotta Shine (Sampology Remix)

In his "Whole Lotta Shine" remix Sampology expands on the percussive ideas seeded within the electronic breaks of the original track. Inspected through the prism of dub-disco, new arrangements and instrumental reworks hone in on Tiana's immaculate lyricism as the rhythmic backbone, bolstering lyrics such as "I got to duplicate myself put my skeletons on the shelf, collecting dust for all I care…"  while grasping onto the original jazz-funk of the record. Sampology comments on the creative process behind his remix:

"After recording new latin conga and timbale parts with my favourite local percussionist here in Brisbane Gustav, I had Rohan The Intern (keys player from the original version) do a couple of passes of synth soloing," she says. "At that point a beautiful red 60s organ had come into my home studio which I played for the new chords and the bass-line throughout the remix".

As the first single from the upcoming Meghalaya – Remixes EP, the wait for the full EP could not be more anticipated; other celebrated musicians will be joining the line-up including Naarm's Horatio Luna, So.Crates and Best Foot Forward, Kiwi friends choicevaughan and Benny Salvador as well as UK-based Street Rat. With such diverse talents on the job, the full EP is certain to be a melting point of 4×4 house, soulful Hip Hop and nu-jazz breakbeat.

Keenly, Tiana reflects on the EP: "This remix EP represents a full spectrum of time; retrospectively, key collaborators and influential styles of the original EP are playful explored, whilst offering a glimpse into my broader Australian & global musical community."

Music journalist, DJ and bedroom producer. Currently lovin' leftfield pop, emotional drum & bass and hardcore. Of course, my real loyalties lie with the vivacious nu-soul, jazz & electronic scene here in Naarm (Melbourne) ~ The land that I write and create on is the sovereign land of the Wurundjeri and Boon Wurrung people of the Kulin Nation. I pay my respects to their Elders past, present and emerging. Sovereignty has never been ceded.
