Flourishing Miami rapper Smokepurrp shared his latest album Florida Jit this past Friday. Released via Alamo Records, the 17-track album boasts features from Lil Pump, Rick Ross, Denzel Curry, Young Nudy, and Jack Harlow. Alongside his new release, he also dropped a new visual for the Jack Harlow assisted "Tide Pen".
Florida Jit is packed with warped loans and brash lyricism. On standout tracks like "Off My Chest", Smokepurrp delivers menacing bars laced over distorted production. Enlisting production from Earl On The Beat, Ronny J, and even himself, Florida Jit shows off Purrp's ability to successfully experiment with various sounds. Playing around with new sounds the high-octane rapper trades his energetic demeanor for cool, melodic hooks on tracks like "Ends" and "24s". Accompanying the release of the new album, he also shares the new "Tide Pen" video. Directed and animated by Sam Hotchman, the warped visual looks like an intense acid trip. Going bar for bar with Jack Harlow, the video follows the two rappers through a hallucinogenic war on animated characters.
After releasing Deadstar 2 last year which included singles "What I Please" and "Dirty Dirty", Purrp kept that same energy going for 2020. He earned his first Grammy nod for his feature on the Dreamville collab "Costa Rica" along with a few more accolades for his songs "Audi" and "Do Not Disturb". So far he hasn't taken an L and with his new release, this year is shaping up to be a good one for the thriving rapper.
