Biome returns to Kaizen with heavy-hitting 5-track EP

Biome has returned to Madam X’s Kaizen label to release a five-track genre-defying EP. Described as being “designed for dark spaces and big soundsystems,” They Know has us missing the dancefloor more than ever.

Mixmag · Premiere: Biome 'Garvey'

In Japanese, ‘Kaizen’ is defined as constantly moving forward. Madam X explained to Huckmag that the label was designed “to create a home for DJs and producers who move effortlessly between grime, jungle, drum and bass, house, dubstep, techno and beyond.” Following a stellar release back in 2017, Biome’s newest body of work effortlessly merges the very best of UK sounds to create one of the heaviest-hitting EPs of 2020, whilst fulfilling the labels vision.

Both “Garvey” and “They Know” see Biome lean towards his dubstep origins, though the influences of his newer works can be heard too. Enormous drops, subtle vocals and ground-shaking bass make these tracks certified wobblers; there really is no other way to describe them. Tracks like these are the reason members of the UK scene take so much pride in the UK sound.  “Equinox” quickly spins things in a wholly different direction. It’s darker, deeper and dubbier than its predecessors, allowing a slight breather before things begin to quickly heat up again.

“Stagger” kicks the energy levels back up to the danger zone, marrying choppy vocals, bouncy bass and percussive stabs together to create an absolute heater. “Conquer” rounds the EP off in as much style as expected. A moody cut of bassline-driven UKG, it really couldn’t be more apt for a grimey basement — I for one can’t wait to hear this one on the dancefloor at some point.

They Know can be streamed and purchased via Bandcamp.
