Drumcode mainstays Pig&Dan have returned to the label with a five track EP. Tunnel Vision II comes just a week after the first installment, Tunnel Vision. With a partnership spanning almost twenty years, their output is intimidating to say the least.
Tunnel Vision II is peak-time, big-room techno for the masses; even as a brief glimpse into the duos discography, it’s easy to understand why they have become such household names amongst Drumcode fans. “Sirenism” gets the release off to a solid start with a pumping bassline and acidic tinges. “Rinse out the Sound” offers more in terms of taut drums and sultry synths, though the impact on the dancefloor remains just as heavy.
“Substance” marks a slight change in tone on the release, adding a slightly more euphoric element without losing the driving force behind the track. The contrast to the other tracks makes “Substance” a stand-out within the Tunnel Vision series.
Both “Perception” and “Wasted” return straight back to the darker sound the first two tracks emulated. “Perception” is percussion-heavy, occasionally broken up with muffled vocals; an attribute which is almost a staple of the release. Both “Sirenism” and “Rinse out the Sound” feature similar vocals – and it gives the tracks an edge. “Wasted” feels like an almost happy-medium of “Substance” and the other tracks on the EP. Tasteful synths give the track a lighter tone than some of its predecessors, whilst still keeping the energy high.
Tunnel Vision II can be streamed via Spotify and purchased via Beatport.
