Presenting herself as a kind of psychedelic Sky Ferreira, Tanners is the curator of interstellar pop jewels. Drawing on a number of retro influences, and combining them with modern synthetic sounds, Tanners has us swirling in a whirlwind of vibrant electro-pop.
The shimmering track is an uplifting queer bop, displaying glorious synths patterns and whimsical electronics Oozing pop inflections, Tanners called "Fumes" her 'prom song'. Inspired by gorgeous 80s ballads including the likes of Cyndi Lauper's "Time After Time", the track was her "goal to pay homage to these sparkly, nostalgic, almost melancholy productions".
Sharing the visuals alongside the release, the video encompasses the prom these with balloons, foil curtains, and a glittering disco ball. "It was hands down the most fun I've ever had shooting" says Tanners. "We came up with six different high school tropes and had these over the top, campy characters lip-sync the track."
Tanners is also selling limited edition t-shirts which say 'I saw Tanners and now I'm gay'. Trust me, we all need one of those in our lives.
