KT Tunstall is dropping a surprise for fans: an orchestral remix of her most recent single "Little Red Thread". Further, the Scottish-born singer reveals the remix was a big surprise for herself too.
The third single lifted off her 2018 album WAX, "Little Red Thread" is a guitar-driven track about human connection. For the remix, the singer-songwriter replaces her trademark glittery Gretsch with a stunning string orchestra. “It took my breath away when I heard the orchestra playing with just my vocals on top for the first time," she said. "The emotion they provide sits so perfectly with the essence of this track. All the while the strings mirroring the little red threads."
Vividly scored by Matthew Sheeran and performed by the Budapest Scoring Orchestra, the remix highlights Tunstall's killer instinct for a pop hook. With only the backing of acoustic strings, her rock-gritty vocals and lyrical warmth take center-stage. Even more, the score suspends us in the artist's imagination. "There is such a specific feeling when you hear orchestral strings. You are immediately transported, transfixed, and swept up on whatever wave they decide you should ride," she said.
The collaboration gels Tunstall's lively storytelling perfectly with Sheeran's visual style. Tunstall told EARMILK, "It was very cool hearing Matthew’s orchestral interpretation of the song." But the idea for the remix was unexpected. "Matthew and I connected a couple of years ago via our film composing work. We had discussed working on something together, we were just waiting for the right opportunity". Knowing this, her manager conspired with Sheeran to organize the surprise. Happily, Tunstall said, "The remix was done completely without me knowing, so it was like the most amazing gift!"
