Earlier this year, one of the most famous hip-hop record labels, Quality Control Music, signed its first R&B singer, Layton Greene. This week we see that Layton Green has collaborated with other music icons to release her single “Leave Em Alone” with Lil Baby, City Girls, and PnB Rock.
The 20-year old R&B recording artist hails from St. Louis, Missouri. Layton Greene’s music career began to take off back in 2017 when she released her remix to Kodak Black’s “Roll in Peace” racking up over 3 million views in just one month. Since then the artist has released other popular tracks leading her to be signed to Quality Control Music back in February. Her latest track “Leave Em Alone” with Lil Baby and City Girls is a smooth love centered anthem that highlights Layton Greene’s talent as a vocalist while still providing fire bars from the rappers on the track. Paired with an upbeat production giving off early 2000s R&B vibes, Layton provides the chorus for the song in addition to her own verse talking about how she’s trying to change her mindset when it comes to love but still enjoys the benefits of being with a man that might not be good for her:
[Verse 1: Layton Greene]
No need to say what I been through
He already know what I'm into
He be reading my mind like it’s simple
Got him banging my line like it's his too
Never got a word 'bout no issues
He pay it on time when the rent due
Made him ice out my neck and the wrist too
Hold down your pussy and your pistol (Let him know, girl)
[Chorus: Layton Greene]
I can't leave 'em alone
Try to change my ways, but the dope boy turnin' me on
Trap niggas know what I want
So caught up that I can't leave 'em alone (Can't leave 'em alone)
Try to change my ways, but the dope boy turnin' me on
Trap niggas know what I want
So caught up that I can't leave 'em alone
American rapper and songwriter PnB Rock is also featured on the track providing explicit yet enticing lyrics for the pre-chorus. Lil Baby and Yung Miami, one of the members of the female rap duo City Girls, continues to hold it down for each of their verses throughout the rest of the track. Ultimately, “Leave Em Alone” is an anthem about complicated love situations. With Layton Greene enlisting iconic artists such as Lil Baby, City Girls, and PnB Rock on her new track in addition to her smooth vocals, the emerging musician is already showing us that she has a lot in store for her music career.
