Peggy Gou is one of my favourite artists—she is truly the coolest person on the planet. When I saw her in Toronto this passed summer, she was wearing denim Nike overalls and hacking a dart in the club while playing nothing but acid for two hours. Absolute coolest. Scroll through her Instagram for two minutes and you’ll know what I’m talking about. It’s Peggy’s world, we’re all just living in it!
She just announced her forthcoming EP titled Moment with the debut track “Starry Night”. The track features a groovy bassline, uplifting keyboard riffs, and vocals in both Korean and English by none other than Peggy herself. It's a perfect blend of chill house and disco that's guaranteed to get you swaying at your desk. Normally I'm reluctant to classify anything as disco, but when I saw Peggy live, the guys who opened for her played nothing but disco on vinyl and it was incredible. She obviously really appreciates that style of music and pays homage to it in her productions. If you liked “It Makes You Forget (Itgehane)”, then you will love this. The stunning artwork is done by Jee-ook Choi, the same artist who did the artwork for her track Itgehane; word is the two will continue to work together on future endeavors.
This is an extra special release, because it's the inaugural release for Peggy's brand new label, Gudu. That’s right folks: Peggy Gou has started her own label. This is not a drill! She is really honing in on her production skills and developing her own sound, and right now is the perfect time for her to take this step forward. It’s safe to say we can expect big things from her, and she’s just getting started.
Mark your calendars: the Moment EP will be released on April 19.
