BRONCHO drop artistic new video for "Sandman / Boys Got to Go" [Video]

BRONCHO is one of those bands that just has a vibe for everyone. Based out of Tulsa, Oklahoma, they are known for energetic, punchy hooks wrapped around a sound that is both nuanced and scuzzy. Double single “Sandman” and “Boys Got to Go” is the first glimpse into their upcoming full-length Bad Behavior, due out October 12, 2018 via Park the Van Records. Rather than just drop the singles alone, they’ve delivered a twelve-minute art film to accompany both tracks.

Director Pooneh Ghana explains that the video "follows a man’s journey of self-realization as he breaks down and breaks through his own wall. He slowly finds the strength to start over and face life with a new outlook and clarity. He truly embraces life again.”

Much like the beginning of a Twin Peaks episode – we see a dark and dingy dive. We hear the inner thoughts of a degraded, regretful old man sipping on a whiskey. As the track launches into high gear, the old man is horrified to see BRONCHO looking like a gaggle of “droogs” from A Clockwork Orange, staring ominously through a window. Just like that, we are racing with the man who does his best to escape the band that symbolizes his wrongdoings and "bad behaviors."

Part One of this odyssey is a clear depiction of the gritty, haunting aura behind “Sandman.” Lindsey’s thin, devilish vocal delivery plays perfectly into the frenetic tone. Reminiscent of the band’s breakout 2014 release, Just Hip Enough to be a Woman, “Sandman” channels their uptempo garage rock roots, while still finding an element of melodic growth. The chorus bops about and almost feels like a straight-up dance track. Lindsey’s vocal characteristic really shines on the final “Brrrrrring!”

As the video segues into “Boys on the Go,” the attitude shifts from one of hopeless abandon to reconciliation and acceptance. The old man in a dingy bar is traded for grandiose landscapes at “magic hour” and the old man on the open road.

The band appears again with a jar of cherries that they’ve wielded throughout the video. The old man takes a bite. Cut to riding on the front of a bicycle on an open highway with outstretched arms. Hesitant at first, he soon gives in to a cathartic release, tension assuaged, he cracks a smile.

Similarly, “Boys Got to Go” feels more like the more meditative, reflective side of BRONCHO we’ve become accustomed to on recent releases like Double Vanity. But these guys have grown up a bit and this double single release shows the best of BRONCHO has to offer. They’ve cleaned the slate and quietly made a return with urgent, bonafide pop songs.

BRONCHO’s Bad Behavior will be available everywhere October 12, 2018, via Park the Van Records.
