Newcomer Benny Bridges hit us with an amazing flip of a classic The Rolling Stones song last week, and he's quickly following up that viral moment with his debut EP. After partnering with LA's Justin Jay on most of his former single and remix releases, he's taken to Jay's label, Fantastic Voyage, to release his New Places EP. A four-track journey through soul-sampling, funky basslines and the point where live instrumentation and electronica intersect, each track has a mind of its own, but a consistent feel. From New Places, we get a real understanding of who Bridges is an artist – experimental, maintaining a focus on the soul of music – this is a digestible, relatable first foray on his own as an artist. This feels like a long time coming for Bridges, as he's dipped his toe so often as a remixer and collaborator, and now finally, the producer has come out of the booth into his own.
